Hello everyone. Just joined reef2reef, was on 3reef for many years and pretty active until life got in the way. Getting back into the hobby and noticed 3reef had moved over here.
I have had freshwater tanks since I was a child and got into the saltwater and reefing about 5 years ago. I set up a 46 mixed reef, had great success then moved and upgraded it to a 65 gallon. Upgrade was in size only with future plans of adding livestock abf corals. Being a fixer upper house I didn't have much time and had a mini crash that killed all my corals and led to a huge algae problem. Thr HOB filter quit working and then kicked back on causing an ammonia spike. Almost got out of the hobby completely was devastated to lose all those corals. Wife talked me into trying to fix things up again and stay in the hobby. The few fish I had hung in there and have been living in the algae reef that slowly got taken over by aiptasia for a couple years as i try to find time to upgrade again.
I decided the only way to go rather than battle algae and the unwanted pest from the previous setup was to start fresh and learn from my mistakes. Bought a 90gal reef ready tank and decided to have a sump and avoid the headache of a HOB filter or any equipment in the tank and all new dry rock. Had a child while building the stand so once again on the back burner hence the algae reef at the moment. Now that he's 18 months old and the house is further along getting ready to get back into it full swing. Going to cycle a 29 gallon to transfer the 2 fish to and QT them since I never did. Bleach and venager the old rock and cycle the 90 gallon to then transfer the fish back into and slowly start adding corals and new additions again. Looking forward to the 4 ft tank space and being able to utilize a sump and truly do everything right from the get go this time around. Will have lots of questions about wimps and the QT process since that will be new to me.
