Hello! I have been reading these forums for a while and am constantly impressed with the quality of information and helpful individuals that are willing to share their experiences freely with others. Although currently I do not have a tank (life just doesn't allow it right now) I did have one as a teenager (20 gallon tank with a single yellow Tang and many, many mushrooms of some sort that took over everything). At some point in the future I will be able to set up a new tank and will have a much better idea of what I am doing when I get to that point.
Right now I am a high school biology teacher and my background is medical microbiology and biochemistry. Thanks being said, one of my huge interests is actually the microbiome of "successful" tanks and it might lead to some interesting experimentation when I get to that point. That being said, I also love microscopy and have access to digital phase contrast compound microscopes (can take pictures and videos). I wanted to determine interest about something: If anyone wanted a better look at anything relatively small (from algae to microorganisms) I would be more than happy to help for no charge (honestly, it's fun for me...). I would then love to post the pictures in these forums for anyone to help ID if need be. Individuals would just need to ship me the sample and I would see what I can do (can't promise amazing images, especially of older samples). My larger goal to is to have my current students learn microscopy better by looking at real samples from various tanks. Would this be something helpful? Any thoughts? Right now, this is how I could contribute to the community if there is interest.
Thank you all again and I look forward to being a part of this community!
