Hello, I'm Tyler Hamilton a senior at West Virginia University as well as a beginner scientific glass blower studying Biochemistry/Animal science (finishing my degree in the fall). I have had aquariums consistently since I was 10 years old. I own two reefs currently a 75-gallon reef and a 30-gallon lagoon (with plans to upgrade to a waterbox peninsula in the coming months). I also maintain a 55-gallon planted axolotl aquarium as well as a 30-gallon planted aquarium that is currently being re-scaped.
I started the 75-gallon in early March of this year, now that I have the space, with a 40-gallon DIY sump build. The sump is housing a BRS reactor for carbon, a Reef-Octopus 150-int skimmer, and substantial devoted space for the refugium that is lit by a 30 watt LED. Return pumps are Jebao as well as the two wavemakers (all surprisingly quiet IMO) I'm upgrading to Neptune return pumps in about a month or so as well as ditching the Jebaos for two maxspect gyres. Two Maxspect Ethereal fixtures sufficiently light the entire tank with an even spread. A Neptune Apex controller monitors all of my equipment. I perform a 30-gallon water change every Sunday and use hw-wiegandt reefer salt mix, consequently resulting in undetectable nitrates and negligible phosphate levels. Also, I have a healthy pod population thinks to Algaebarn. And how could I forget, one eye-sore of a return pipe
.
Live Stock:
Melanurus wrasse
Percula Clown Fish (bonded pair)
Purple Tang
Banded Pipefish
Green Mandarin
Blue dottyback
Purple dottyback
2 Emerald Crabs, 5 Red Leg Hermits, 8 blue leg, 10 astrea and 10 cerith snails. 1 arrow crab in the refugium.
I will begin adding mainly all SPS corals anytime now, I just have been busy with class.
