Hi, I'm Carroll and my wife is Jules. We scored a 125 gallon tank for free (undrilled, had been used as a discus tank), and I'm working on outfitting it so we can set up a reef tank. I had a 90 gallon marine tank 30 years ago that ran on an undergravel filter and a homemade protein skimmer. I can definitely say things have changed in the hobby, and very much for the better as far as technology goes, although it's a tad rough on the bank account, LOL!

My wife has never had an aquarium before and after seeing a few reef tanks, she really wanted to set one up instead of going with a FW tank. This is a steep learning curve for her, and I'm having to relearn some stuff to keep up with the changes over the years.

We are going to set the tank up with an HOB overflow (don't want to risk drilling it as I'm unsure if the glass is tempered or not), sump, protein skimmer, and some chaeto in the sump for nutrient export. The hard part has been finding a sump that fits inside the stand for the tank, as it's a very long, narrow tank.

Anyway, here we are, now to dig in and learn all we can from the rest of you.....
