I have been working on this tank since September. I have to say this hobby is very addictive.

75 gallon
30 gallon Trigger Sump
Speedwave DC return pump
Vertex protein skimmer
auto top off
Vortech MP10s
Vertex Illumina LEDs

Seems to be running great now. I had issues with dinoflanges a couple of months ago but the LFS guided through it and now the tank has settled in.

You can run without the filter socks with no problems
Your skimmer will keep the water clean especially if you have a sponge between the skimmer and sump that will stop most debris
The socks are nice if you had to add substrate and got it clouded up but I'd remove them after a couple days

I took off my socks for a few days. And after seeing all the gunk they take out of the water i think ill leave the socks on! My sump needs to be cleaned now. So if i was you id leave them on and just wash the socks. FYI if you have a sewing machine WAY WAY cheaper to buy some 100% poly felt from wallmart and sew your own. SOmthing like 25-30 per yard is what i got. $5 bucks a yard cant go wrong there.

Tank looks great BTW keep it up.
