New to reefing too much info out there

I’m starting a new reef tank I would like to have over 100gal don’t know what tank and equipment is the best I’ve been on YouTube and on here doing research. I don’t overly like the overflow in the tank. Willing to learn and Any info will help thanks

How to's I liked the brs beginner series. If I had to start over I would save for reef ready. But I also would recommend starting small and simple. A 20 breeder with a hang on back may not look the best but it will get your hands wet and teach you first hand what you are seeing on YouTube and reading here. When you do go big it will become a great quarantine tank.

That’s not a bad way to go, when i started it was with a 37gal, and a HOB skimmer.
Had great success fragging and growing, if you do well with a small tank a big tank is cake….

Biggest mistake is going too fast, back in the day you could get great live rock and get it going quick.
lots of guys here use bacteria boosts now but I never did that so I’m not real familiar with that system.

BRSTV has done several series covering basics one topic at a time. Even the older ones are still really helpful but some technology (lighting specifically) has improved. The fundamentals though haven’t changed much.

From my own experience, I want a tank that is wide more than tall. I also look for simple equipment. A 40B is my favorite because it’s big enough to aquascape but small enough that a 10% water change can be done with two 5G buckets. A single light, an in tank skimmer, a couple power heads and a heater and we’re off. JMO.

What about aio tanks and hob systems? I get what you are saying but there are plenty of successful tanks without a sump. That would be the best way to go but not the only.

I have 3 AIO tanks and after doing maintenance on them for a while I've decided the next one will have overflows with the sump underneath. It's easier from a maintenance perspective as well as giving you more options for equipment like a larger skimmer for example. Just my two pennies.
