New to refugiums bad algae takes over

I started a refugium with a good size of gracilaria. I have a strong LED that runs opposite of my DT schedule. I had a powerhead but removed it when I saw the algae was too fragile and was breaking apart. In 3 weeks I had good grow and then GHA took over. The GHA is completely covering the good algae. Should I start over with new gracilaria or is it inevitable that the same thing would happen again?

Why Gracilaria? And not cheato? Reason why I ask is I have hard time keeping grac alive. Have no idea why. But cheato grows a lot easier for me and much firmer and stronger. I would try to remove most of GHA as you can and start over. Not sure what light you have but I bought the Kessill h80 Fuge light. Much more red and seems to be better for the good algae. This is just my experience

I wanted gracilaria to feed my Foxface and purple tang. They both tear it up. I probably will switch over to chaeto now that I'll be starting over. The light I have is a 100w led grow light that performed really well.
