New to RO/DI

I installed a BRS 6 stage system and the filtered water goes into a reservoir that has a float valve to stop the flow when the reservoir is full. Is there a way to stop the waste water from flowing once the FW reservoir is full?

Does the RO/DI have an autoshutoff valve (ASOV) installed on it? Without the ASOV the waste flow will continue once the float is raised.
If it does and it is still running then try picking the RO/DI up in your hands while it is operating and slowly rotate it around in all orientations to release any trapped air inside the housings and filters. This often stops it.
If that doesn't work you may need a check valve in the ASOV circuit to give it a more positive shutoff.

I myself much prefer a solenoid valve and two float switches set a good distance apart so the RO/DI runs in nice long batches and does not restart until the level in the ATO storage drops many gallons so you reduce the effects of TDS creep, better water quality and much longer DI life.

Az is correct the ASOV usually looks like this

Also sometimes it takes a little bit for the waste to shut off after the product water is stopped. I would say at least 30 seconds.

I think you can get an auto shut off valve from BRS.

If you got it from BRS I would safely assume it has a auto shutoff valve installed already. I know mine will run for about another 5 minutes or so after I shut the RODI off

I have a BRS unit and it is indeed installed. I have not run it to the point of engaging the float valve, so I did not realize it was there. Did I mention I'm a newbie?

You are good. Its freaked me out when I ran a RODI for the first time and sat there thinking is this thing ever going to shut off. For the longest time I would cut the water off to the unit when not in use. I am not sure if that is recommended or not but I don't I leave it hooked up and just turn a valve when I need it

Bob, I'm going to do the same, i.e. only turn the RO/DI on when I need to do a water change and I'm home while the tank is filling.

I leave my systems on and pressurized at all times but I use a solenoid and float switches.
With float valves it is a good idea to shut the tap off and let your Brute or storage container drop several gallons or more before refilling so you reduce the effects of TDS creep. Thats the worst thing about float valves, they have a very limited range between off and on that they are constantly starting and stopping if you draw water and that leads to TDS creep and short DI life. Membranes and DI like nice long filter runs.
