Hey all, i'm new to saltwater aquariums and stuff, idk what to really post on here, so if you have any questions about me, just ask.

I have a marine land 75 gallon freshwater tank, I have a 1 gallon freshwater tank idk what kind, but the tank I reallywant to get running is my 90 gallon. It's an acryllic tank and it's beautiful, I just need help starting it and know to help. What kind of tanks do you have?

Right now I'm running a 57 rimless and a 30 rimless as my frag tank. Take a look through the member tank forum for some ideas for your tank and ask a lot of questions. There's plenty of experienced people on here that will be happy to help. Best advice I ever got was to take my time and research. Only bad things happen fast with reef tanks. Best of luck!

thanks, first question, if you don't mind, what kind of return pump do you recommend for an 80 gallon tank?

No problem at all. For return pumps I like to stay between 5x10 times the tank size in flow (usually on the lower end of that. So something in the 400-800 gph range. This will also depend on how much water your overflow can handle. I have been running one of the jebao dc pumps. The dc pumps are very quiet, run cool and are adjustable which is a huge plus. Take a look at the jebao dc pumps and the reef octopus dc pumps. There's others out there as well.

Ok, thank you, now what kind of a protien skimmer do you have? And what should i look at?

Welcome! For a protein skimmer, do you have a sump(if so what are the dimensions of it?) or will it be a Hang on the Back (HoB) kind?

For a skimmer look into a quality brand such as reef octopus, vertex, bubble magus. Also try to get a skimmer that is rated for more than your actual water volume (tank+sump). I run a reef octopus nwb-110 on my tank. The next size up should work out for you if it will fit in your sump.

Ok, and i started a second thread on here and asked about a power head, the guy said dont get a pkwer head, just get a wave maker, whats your opinion

Another question, do i really need to quarantine my fish, i never did it with my fresh water tank and it seems expensive to do this

I think a lot of us have learned the hard way that qaurantine is the way to go. It may not catch you now,you may go years without any problems then one day you add a fish and it wipes out hundreds or maybe thousands of dollars worth of fish and you start scrambling to set up a qaurantine. It's not really difficult to set up. I leave mine set up and running in my utility room all the time

Some will say yes and some will say no. I never have and have not gotten anything bad as a result but sadly some people have also not done it and gotten all kinds of nasty things. If you are going to be spending $$$$$$ of fish and corals then yes, you should do it.

A wave maker is nice and your corals will love it.However, the initial set-up will be much more expensive than buying a power head or two.
