Welcome to R2R! Always a great place to learn from! I agree I would trash the heater and just buy a new one that is an extremely cheap upgrade, but there are definitely many options you can add. You can add a HOB protein skimmer if you would like, but you definitely don't need.. There is nothing you really need.. Just things that can and help maintain your tank easier! The one thing I suggest that you need is a ATO... haha I didn't have one for the longest and was just filling up on a daily basis, but with an ATO it keeps your levels a lot more consistent and have to do less work than worrying about adding water daily.. or even a couple times a day, but if you do manually do it.. just take like a dry erase marker and mark your level after every water change you do and just keep at that point as consistent as you can! That is my little info I have to give, but definitely what you "Need" there isn't much, but things definitely help to make it much easier

Thank you for the input. Are there certain brands that I should look at or avoid when it comes to a ATO

I would like to know what other equipment I need and also some input on my current equipment. I will start out with a FOWLR but would love to get into some beginner corals down the road. Once I get comfortable and gain some experience.

Hi and welcome to the club. I just joined and am also doing my homework. I have been spending a lot of time here looking at threads and also a lot of time on the Bulk Reef Supply (BRS) website. They have a ton of videos that make the homework easier.
