Ok i am new to saltwater. Just a little about myself. Just turned 30 this month and my birthday/father day present to myself was me starting a 60 gal saltwater tank. I have had freshwater heavily planted tanks for 10 years now. But this is my first attempt at salt water. i have been researching it for years but still feel like i know nothing lol. So here is a little bit about my set up. 60 gal tank with a ehiem 2217 canister fliter, eshopps psk75 hang on skimmer, 50 lbs of crib sea live sand, 50 LBS live rock, 2 maxijet 1200 power-heads, using nothing but rodi water. that is my tank set up as of right now trying to get it to cycle. I will be recording the progress of my tank on youtube feel free to check it out i will post the link below... i am open to any advice anyone is willing to give...

Welcome to R2R!
What are you planning on stocking the tank with? Going for reef or fowlr?

Also I forgot my lighting I have the fluval double t5 fixture with two moonlight leds added on it I know I need more but not sure what exactly to get because I am limited on space

A lot of people hang their lights . Some don't like that look but I think it's nice. Frees up alot of space too.

Yeah I thought about it but I am just not sure about that

If you keep your lights sitting on top of the tank, it may limit you on how and where to place corals down the road.

If you do or hang them, build a screen top for the tank to keep the fish from carpet surfing.

Building a canopy or buying one can give you some room to hang the lights and will keep the fish in the tank.

Well I have the canopy that comes with the tank but I feel that it restricts the light and I really don't like it so I may end up building just a screen to go on top but this is good advice I appreciate it my kid really wants a bubble tip anemone for Nemo lol so anybody got advice on those I'm thinking probably should get it first because I know they move and just hope it find a spot that it likes to stay and doesn't move much after that because I will get real mad if it starts killing corals when I get them

Haven't had an anemone in years, but they can and do move unexpectedly, even once established. So it's a roll of the dice.

I've had a toadstool leather for years and got so big once 12"+that my clowns would "host" it. It didn't mind them what so ever, but if I touched it, it would retract. Go figure. Had to frag it and now it's 6" and they are starting to do it again.

I have 3 rose bubble tips currently. The original stays put but the other two that split off havent stayed in the same spot for more then a couple days. and its been months since it split. makes it kinda interesting while looking at the tank, you get to play I SPY with the nems. but on the other hand they can get themselves into trouble. just make sure your tank is established a little and you have the proper lighting up before you throw in a nem otherwise it wont last more then a week.

Yeah that's what I have read so the only thing that concerns me right now is my lights may not be enough for them as of right now but I am looking to upgrade them soon

You're off to a great start! I would start with fish only while you learn the ropes. Fish are a lot more forgiving of beginner's mistakes (we've all been there). Plus, corals do better in a more established tank. To me it's a win-win. Do you have test kits? How are you cycling? Ask a lot of questions here. We all want to help!

No test kits yet gonna by them in a few days probably just been researching the best one because most of my local stores only carry the API master reef and master saltwater tank but I would need to buy both to watch everything I need to watch really looking at a good all in one kit the cycling is just being done with the live sand and live rock

Did a second video update late last night.
