Hey everyone new to the hobby, wanted to say hi and also a had a question. Just set up a 20 gallon high tank to start to cycle, got 25lbs of live rock and there was a crab in there not sure what kind, looks like a ghost crab, what should I do with it leave in tank while it cycles? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Welcome to R2R! You can leave him.in there for the cycle, but the swings in parameters may stress him out and potentially kill him if the levels get to high. #WelcometoR2R

Welcome to R2R! That rock looks pretty good, where did you get it? If it were me I would probably leave the crab, unless I had another cycled tank. Others would probably suggest to take him to the fish store or give to a reefing buddy if you know one. Thanks for joining R2R!

Welcome!
If you can. When ammonia starts being present. Keep the crab in a separate container. Feed it and do water changes for it till the tank finishes cycling and toss him back into its new home if you plan to keep it. You will only have to test for ammonia in its holding container. When you see 0.25ppm it is not overly good, but just pull it out and put it in another container. Do a 100% water change for the holding container. Toss it back in. Just make sure the water is a good temp of like 75-78F for it. Also the water you are replacing it with is up to temp. This means you will have to heat the container that you keep the crab in. To heat the water you change it with. Just fill up some plastic bottles with warm water. Till you have a matching temp. Best to have one of those digital thermometers to reduce temp shock. Hope that helps. Enjoy the hobby. There is a ton of tricks and good advice here. I would even say confront any questions here before a LFS(Local Fish Store). BTW cool crab I would keep it, but I think they get big.

Welcome to r2r. As for crsb, if you have a sump, drop him in there and feed him occasionally

Thanks everyone [emoji16] will do what 40B Knasty mentioned as I dont want to kill the thing with the changes in the water.

Like stated before me, the crab will likely die if it goes along for the cycle ride. I am not sure it is a reef safe crab either so my motto is when in doubt research it out.
If that doesn't work, when in doubt, pull it out. :D
