New to saltwater..

You just have to be patient. The bacteria that work on ammonia are different than the bacteria that work on nitrite. The bacteria that work on ammonia are called nitrosomas, and the bacteria that work on nitrite are called nitrobacter. You need both bacteria present in sufficient quantities to complete your cycle. Nitrite is a toxic substance. If you introduce any fish or corals with nitrite present they will be dead within a day or two, unless they are extremely hardy.

Welcome aboard!
