New to setting up a sump

I've got another question I didn't put a gate valve or any of that type of stuff on the overflow box and it's really loud because I didn't is there anything that I can do to make it quiter because it sounds like a river in my living room and I really don't want to mess with the plumbing again if I don't have to so can someone help me out with this and I have used sponges on a hob skimmer to stop the girgiling would that work with this or is there anything else that I can do ?? Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

I just (6 months ago) upgraded to a tank with Sump, skimmer and Fuge and I love it and was terrified of it all at the same time. I spent many hours just watching the water work through it, figuring out how it worked. LFS set it up and gave a quick tutorial but most the info wasn’t absorbed in my excitement.
I can see why the sound of the overflow may be unwanted in the living room but maybe give it a chance. I really enjoy the gurgling sound. Very therapeutic and calming, plus when there are new sounds...suspicious sounds, you can pick up on it fast and investigate why.
Good luck on your journey.

Yes, you just have to make sure it's constantly clean. Plus you want to limit the amount of air getting in; to do this, I would advise you to look at raising your pipes in the overflow and looking at bean animal overflows or stockman pipes. That said, a valve install would be most efficient. Can we get a picture of the inside of your overflow?
It's the small version of the eshopps Eclipse overflow box

I just ran 2 set's of pipe down to the sump with elbows and straight pipe so I did it basic because this is the first sump that I've had and I've always had hob stuff until now

I have the Eshoppes (M). Been playing with plumbing with the garden hose (it is on my back porch currently), still building..) If it is the slurp sound, add a gate valve inline to the siphon drain, and slowly close it till water trickles into the red tube.
If it is splashing from the overflow into the rear box (where your 2x 1" drains are..)

This guy used a 45° from the main tank bulkhead into the box to limit splashing.

I run a lot of flow from the returns, so I saw strong turbulence in the external side of the overflow box, causing a vortex around the main drain that could suck air. To address this, I inserted a 1" 45 degree elbow fitting inside the 1.5" bulkhead feeding the external overflow box, and turned it to direct the inflow away from the main drain. This effectively prevented the vortex and air being sucked into the main siphon drain. The small hose in the top of the overflow lid is my ATO inlet hose.

Ment to quote post from that thread.

Also dig this guys ato method.

I think barnacle's suggestion of the herbie style was best in this case
