New to sw

Going with dry rock. Couldn't find any live that I trusted. The rock will be here tomorrow. Picks then!!!
Dry rock is great because it saves money and there are no unwanted hitchhikers!

That is what it came down. Those two reasons. And I'm looking at the eshoops psk-75h

So now the rock is in (sure to redo it at least 2 more times). Fighting the urge to go to the lfs. I'll call this CYCLE FEVER. The water seams ok (not that I know what I'm looking for), and the Mrs is sounding excited also.
Looking into an bra and a couple of clowns to start. How big should the anemone for a pair of clowns??

Welcome to the hobby and R2R!

I would stay away from a BTA as your first invert in the tank, they need lots of light and a well established tank to thrive.

Oh. No need to get into that kind of trouble right out of the gate. My wallet thanks you already!!!

So a quick up. Cycling done. Added 2 blue chromis to speed that up a bit. Last night went and got 4 turbo snails, a coral banded shrimp and a lawn mower blenny. My question is what is the slime the the snails are leaving behind? Is the OK to leave or should I figure out how to remove it?

Looks like you're on the right track. Good to see you posting your updates. There may be times you feel a little discouraged, if your experience goes anything like mine lol, but stick with it and it will pay off in the end. As for your post about the clowns and anemone, it all depends on your clown species. Maybe a Bubble Tip Anemone and a pair of wild caught Perculas. Often times, the tank raised clowns don't know what to do with an anemone! It's really a hit or miss. Many clowns won't pair up with an anemone and some do. Your best bet, if you REALLY want to see the hosting in action, is to get some Clarkiis. They love anemones and you will have higher chance of a host with those. I made that mistake. I bought two percula clowns and a Pink Tip nem. Clowns completely ignore it. Sinc e yo've got your rock in there, have you gotten any power heads? You need lots of good circulation in there. A circulation pump on each side would be great. Your HOB filter will provide some flow, but not enough. I didn't see any in the pics.

As for a skimmer, Reef Octopus makes a good skimmer. Reef Octopus BH100 should be more than enough for your bowfront. If you plan to upgrade, you may opt for something a little bigger than the bh100.

I have a 425 gph hydor koralia. Hoping Santa (my better half) will bring me another one with a controller. Still trying to see if I can get a sump to fit under the stand. Thinking I'm going to half to build a new one. But that will be a bit so I'm trying to find a skimmer that I won't mine boxing back up in a month or two.

Jebao makes a really good wavemaker. Check out the Jebao RW-8.

WARNING!!!
Unless you are willing and able to rush out tomorrow and buy 2 new circulation pumps, don't watch that video! Trust me, it will make you want one. I have 2 of them added to my Amazon wishlist hoping Santa will bring me one! Ever since I saw that video I've wanted to rush out and buy one sooooo badly.

I picked up two rw-15 pumps for my 120. There are a few issues with them. One is operating at a different clock speed than the other. In w1 mode sometimes they are on at the same time and some times they alternate (my preference). I don't know if I got some from the first production run but I'm not 100% satisfied. That being said, I have them on opposite sides of a 4' tank and they blast sand everywhere if I run them full speed.

Maybe you have some faulty sync issues. This sync with each other via wi-fi and like any other wireless configuration, they are subject to interference. Maybe something is interfering with the signals or perhaps you picked up a bad device? I do know that these RW series are fairly new and a replacement for the WPs so it may be possible they have some minor issues, although the reviews I have read have been good. I'm eager to find out if anyone else has trouble with these. I'm getting 2 RW4s soon. Sorry, don't mean to hijack the thread.

OP, keep us posted on your tank! I've seen far too many new members come and go. Would be awesome to see you stick around! :)

Not hijacked. I love a good debate. And I'm already hooked. My better half has already given me the OK to go bigger then I wanted to. "Have to get a house first", says mama. Always something in the way of a new tank. Lol[emoji23]

I have the rw-4 in a biocube and it's perfect.

Thumbs, wouldn't it be nice to have a new tank for the new house? :) Perfect :thumb:

How many gallons is that cube? I've got a 30g long and have been loooking at getting 2 rw4s, one on each side. Trying to wait to see if santa will bring me one or two, but I may go ahead and gift myself. lol

Oh. She did say I could build the house around the new tank. As long as the house is finished first.

Ok so I just had this mental image of a big tank sitting out in the middle of a field and a construction crew building 4 walls of a house from the ground up. Literally around an already established tank lol

Saw this guy at the lfs, had to bring him home. The fella at the store said he is bomber proof. Can anyone point me in the direction of how to id it?
