My name is Craig And i have been a hobbyist for about 45 years. I just came back to saltwater about a year ago after a 20 year absence. My greatest joy was back the 80" when I used to breed discus until it got bigger than me. I look forward to talking to people in the forum and learning about all the new products and ways to keep a successful saltwater aquarium.

Right now I am battling Cyano bacteria.. I did a chemiclean treatment on Weds and I am going to do a 25% water change tonight. Any suggestions on how else to treat this would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you

Craig

The system has been up and running for just about 11 months. This bloom has only been a recent event about 2 weeks ago and has spread quickly,

I just joined too and I'm looking forward to interacting with everyone.

As for the Cyano, I notice a slight amount in my system with an increase of 2 degrees in the water temp over the summer. I dropped the temp back down to 76 and did a water change and its gone.

Are you dosing anything and also what is your feeding schedule?
I have found amino acids in a higher nutrient tank will feed that cyano.

I am feeding them once a day. I have a 90 gal tank with a standard wet dry system that is pumping about 450 GPH and I also have a wave pump to increase the water movement and I am running a 12" air strip to aerate the water. I never had this issue 20 years ago when IO had saltwater set up

Great to have you back!

*Welcome to Reef2Reef @Craig Herbert !* It sounds like you system is still fairly new and maybe your rocks have started to leach out phosphate.I would siphon out the cyano with a larger tube. Then add more circulation in the worst areas and some carbon. The addition of a algae scrubber may be helpful if the problem persists.Be certain to keep up with water changes as specified on the ChemiClean directions. In my experience the product can be irritating to corals.Best of luck with your new aquarium!
