Good evening! I wanted to share some of my "thoughts of wisdom" after today's adventure. My husband and 2 kids, along with myself went to a new saltwater pet store we stumbled across while surfing the net. It was one of the most organized pet stores that we have come across, I was surprised! But what started this venture is I was looking for a Diamond gobie to maintain my sand. So we walk in and its like the clouds parted and the heavens shined down on us. I was so over whelmed and then of course the oh mommy and oh you got to see this, did you see that mommy. Then there's the husband showing me everything I cant have (too expensive) lol. It was great my kids were getting interested into mommy's hobby. Then the sales lady says she has only one diamond gobie left and someone is wanting it if I don't. I stated yes we wanted it but if it was going to cause a fuss then I'd figure something else out. Then she tells me a price on a coral beauty and flame angel $39 each. I thought pretty hard about it, I've researched them, knew my stuff and the price was right so I agreed to take a flame angel home as well. Then some how, I guess being blinded by the lights of heaven, the sales lady talked me into taking home a skunk cleaner shrimp and talked me out of the pom pom crab I really wanted (still trying to figure that out). Then, as I watched my son there was the this black and white Blennie that was watching my son. As my son would walk from side to side the little guy would follow and then hide and just watched my son as hard as I was watching it. It was cute, like hide and seek. So my son was in love with the little guy and he also joined us on the ride home. So at this point we have diamond gobie, flame angel, Blennie, and a cleaner shrimp. I also picked out two small frags. At this things were really good. I went to check out and the sales lady said oh you have to have this food its the best, better than what you are using. Which buy the way, every store I have been to says their food is the best, I'm running out of room. I guess is this where I trust my gut and say no or what? I did buy the food but I'm done, for someone who has been in the hobby for 3 months I have more food than I know what to do with. And then I asked about lighting, because no matter who I've asked I get a different answer EVERY TIME. I just want to keep my fish alive. Then as she's ringing up prices she charges me 59$ for the flame angel. I didn't say anything I was kind of processing, questioning if I heard wrong. She also said with my current set up I need to add jet something to increase the current of the water. I wanted to get one at some point but hadn't planned on it during this trip. Anyways I paid for everything. And I'm home I have everyone acclimated and in their new home. BUT as I was looking at the little guys, I notice a few specs, sand size on my flame (what could this be?), I didn't notice them in the store. So I am now disappointed in myself I should have examined the fish bagged before checking out, maybe I could have caught this. So I don't know. Lessons learned check fish out before paying, don't agree to equipment until I've researched it fully and felt comfortable with the purchase, QUESTION prices! Also sometimes I feel like I know more about some saltwater stuff than the sales lady with only being in the hobby 3 months. I questioned a couple of times about if this would be too big of a bio dump and she replied no, that my tank would be fine. Sorry had to get this off of my mind before going to bed. Just learning! Trust your gut. Thanks for listening! Also please forgive any typos I'm exhausted.
