New to the hobby, help pls :)

Hi guys/gals, i'm new to this hobby, i live in indonesia and I don't know much about aquarium but i'm really interested in it. Can you guys help me understand the basics and what parts r needed to setup a healthy aquarium. Right now I have an aquarium in my house, it's pretty big, maybe 240 gallons or more. Thing is, i wasn't the one who set it up, i called a bunch o guys to set it up. and now I want to make a new aquarium from scratch. What would I need? Beside aquarium and the fish and corals? I asked around here and they won't tell me much, maybe afraid that once I know a thing or two about aquariums they won't get business or something. So can someone point me to the right direction?

IMHO on of the very important and most overlooked (or ignored) aspects of setting up an new aquarium is to start the tank with various forms of plant life right from the start.

with Freshwater that is true aquatic plants and in marine systems that is macro algaes because there are very few actual plants in salt environments. And those that do exist are very slow growing.

with marine systems you also usually have to protect the macro algea is some kind of refugium because the fish, crabs, and other livestock eat the macros.

But that's just my .02
