Thanks Ron! Where do they sell time and patience? I ran out awhile back! Lol. The other issue I have is the stand I inherited has major termite action. Fortunately enough I own a pest control company lol. I’m not much help with reefs and fish but I can share on how to get rid of pests outside the tank! Thank you for all the info brother!

Ha! Good points!

Jaam, I've never seen it for sale, although some people do try to sell ways to develop it on your own (like yoga). But I can almost guarantee that if your are still involved seriously in this hobby 2 years from now, you will have found some time and patience somewhere! ;Happy

And deal with those termites ASAP. That's 1800 pounds of water and a heavy tank sitting there. I had a 180g tank split a seam and open up a 3" long gap in the silicone between the back glass and the bottom glass, 3 feet in from either side and up very close to the wall. It believe it happened because the stand sagged ever so slightly in the middle. I couldn't stop the leak due to it's location and it was spraying out 30 gph at the drywall and onto the floor. So 30 gph out of a 180g tank... it was about the most excruciating 6 hours I have ever spent. Lucky for me, here in Florida we have tile floors on a concrete slab, so no floor or carpet damage. But serious drywall damage and water went under the wall and into the bathroom under the cabinets. The previous owner had tiled up to, but not under) the cabinets. That created a 1/2" 'well' to hold water and it all migrated up into the particle board cabinets and destroyed them. So I ended up re building that bathroom and then the master bathroom (so they would have the same cabinets). UGH!!! ;Nailbiting;Drowning;Facepalm

That suckssss!!!!! I’d be so mad id probably find my exit ticket at that point! Since I inherited the stand like that and it seems as if the activity has been for a long time I may break down the tank and plumbing again and get a new stand.... not looking forward to it but it does sound better than the tank breaking down itself..

Question, what do I need to add to the fuge for pods? All I have is mineral mud and some live sand I took out my dt and added it in there. From my understanding just crushed up coral and small rocks? I am going to add chaeto to it!

Went to the keys yesterday since weather report showed 10-15mph winds and 2-3ft seas man it was more like 15-20mph winds and 5-7ft seas! But tell you what, the nems have some fresh black grouper, mutton’s and yellow tails for dinners!

If you are at all handy with tools, building a stand it's that hard. You can have pods in a refugium with just macro algae (chaeto or any other). Sand and small to very small rocks can help by offering breeding sites for the pods.

You have some lucky nems! My wife and I are already looking forward to May when the water gets warm enough that snorkeling for 2 to 4 hours is comfortable!

Nice! The water was so stirred up. The shallows 10-20ft where it’s usually see through crystal clear was murky from rough seas stirring up the sand. You couldn’t see more than a foot down lol. I’ll just put the tank on the ground from now on

hello all,

I recently got into the hobby about 2 months ago. A close friend of mine had this tank with a ton of sps/lps/fish. He went on vacation for a few days and his pump failed. Pretty much lost everything besides a few Duncan’s, candy canes, leathers, lobo, rock flower and 2 clowns. he had let the tank sit around for a few months with little care. When I got the tank from him it was FULL of algae. Anyways, we broke down the tank emptied it all out, moved it to my house and set everything back up. Since then, I’ve gotten protein skimmer, sump/fuge, pump, fish, lights etc. my water parameters are pretty stable now and have been for a few weeks. I’ve only done one water change so far (1 month mark) and I’m coming up on the second one. I’m sure I will be pretty active on r2r as this build goes! I’ve researched so much about this but man is there a lot of information to take in.
On another note. My yellow tangs are ALWAYS fighting each other. They’ve been at it for about 1 month now and the more aggressive one has killed my kole tang and my blonde Naso. I’m in south Florida. Anybody looking for a yellow tang!!?? $15 he’s yours. Just give me time to catch him.

Hello, this is an update on my tank! Ever since I posted last I lowered my light intensity and lowered it some more and again some more. I’ve been running the lights at 60% blue and 15% white. Everything looks much better. My chaeto and another algae (I forget the name) is growing extremely fast. Water parameters have been stable and consistent at :
Ph 8.2
Nitrite/nitrates/phosphates 0
Calcium 420
Dkh 6-7
Ammonia <.025
Salinity 1.026
I’ve been doing 20% water changes ever 3 weeks.
My toadstool leather went through some phase where it shriveled up and looked like it was dying and even got a hole on the side and in the middle too look closely at the pic. Any idea what that was about?
In another month or so I’ll start adding more corals but I did just get a 24kt gold torch (i think that’s what it’s called) hopefully it makes it

Welcome. It looks like you are getting a handle on the tank in record time. Well done!

Seems like it’s taking forever lol. I’d be disappointed if my torch doesn’t make it. I just put it in yesterday evening. I placed her in low light for now. From all the reading I’ve been doing I think I’m going to buy another wave maker to add more flow. I have one jebao ow-50 now so maybe another ow-40 for the other side?
