hello, i am new to the hobby but so far loving it, i have a 55g F/O tank..so far... havnt decided if i am going to add corals or anenomes to it yet though it would be nice in the future. I have been reading reading reading about salwater tanks mine is set up and i have my fish and live rock ect so far i still have to get a skimmer for it though. In my tank right now i have 2 yellowtail damsels 1 fiji blue damsel"at least thats what he looks like" 5 green chromis, and 1 purple dotty back. Everyone seems to be getting along in the tank awesome so far! :) In like 3 weeks or so id like to add a pair of ocellaris clowns. Would the clowns be to crowded? i started all this for clownfish in the first place? I also have a 30g saltwater tank it contains a blue velvet damsel and 2 sapphire blue damsels they are doing good as well. The other tank i have is 10g i am thinking of setting that up in the next 3 weeks as a quarantine tank...do i crushed coral or live sand in it since it will only be used for that? I know i need to put live rock in it. I plan on going to a 100 or a 150g in the near future and that i would like to make into a "show" tank corals anenomes the "right" species of fish for the tank. Also could i transfer some of my fish out of my 55g to the 100-150g when its all set up and ready to go? or would it put them through to much stress? I dont mind starting from scratch on the larger tank just wondering? I have alot of questions and hopefully ive come to the right place the more ideas and advice the better:)

You can definately transfer the fish if you like but understand that damsels tend to become very aggresive and may not mix well with some of the other fish you may want. Even larger fish can fall prey to their aggressiveness. I don't think that you should add any more fish to the 55 its pretty well crowded as is. If you do transfer the fish to a new tank just make sure you acclimate them first.

thank you

Thank you! Could i put my 5 chromis in the 30g with the blue velvet and the sapphires? or would that over crowed the 30?

QT tank is just a bare bottom tank. No substrate, no live rock, just a heater. Use a HOB or sponge filter and have maybe a power head for circulation.

Easiest way is to open a free photobucket account upload the pictures to there and then paste the img code from photobucket into your reply

Welcome to the site, and the hobby!

My local fish store which is saltwater only, has a tank with a snowflake moray eel, a few lion fish, and a single full grown neon damsel. The fact that the damsel can hold his own in that kind of predatory tank says a lot about their personality.

here are some pictures of my fish and my tanks they arnt the best pic sorry:)
