Hello. My name is Danny and I am about to take the plunge into the saltwater aquarium hobby. I just ordered a 90 gallon tank and will begin building the stand and canopy next week. I have had a fresh water aquarium for years but after a recent scuba diving trip to the Exuma Islands, I feel the need to capture that beauty in my own home. Any advice will be welcome.

Welcome to R2R, you've found heaven on the Internet! For reef tanks that is...

I'll be looking out for your tank!

welcome to the forum and hobby! You picked a really nice tank. Lots of possibilities. What type of tank are planning on? read, read, and read some more!

I have spent every available opportunity over the past couple of months reading books, articles and watching online videos. I visited my local store and spent about an hour asking question and gathering information. I plan to take a very slow and cautious approach to the hobby instead of jumping in head first and taking the chance of being unsuccessful. My goal is to set up the 90 gal. tank with live rock and a nice mix of fish and coral. I don't necessarily want a fish only tank but I also don't want to fill it with coral and have only a couple of fish. I think a handful of corals will allow me to slightly increase the number of fish and give me the look that I want.

Sounds like you have the right idea.Take your time picking out fish as they are difficult to catch in larger well stocked tanks. Some get too large, others will eat tankmates. If you see something you like at your local aquarium store, ask questions and do your own research.Be sure to start yourself a tank build thread and take lots of photos. It is nice to see how your piece of the ocean progresses over the years.*Welcome to Reef2Reef,Danny!*

Question: The DT is a 90 gallon Marineland with a single overflow. The sump is a 40 gallon breeder and the the plumbing between the two is going to be 1" PVC. What is the best return pump size?

I've got the same tank and the plan is to setup a herbie in the single overflow and return over the back of the tank with a rio2500. I'm getting ready to swap out the rio2500 in my leemar 90 gal durso tank with a sicce2.0 soon to hopefully bring the noise level down.

Nothing but problems with the pseudo durso plumbing included from marineland.

Welcome, looks good so far

Great work on the stand and canopy! What type of white finish are you using on the inside?
