Hi everyone,

I'm Alex and I'm from Queens, NY. I am very new to the hobby and just recently bought a tank and am very excited to do my research and learn from everyone here on R2R. My uncle is an avid reefer, got me interested and into this hobby and he introduced me to this forum as well.

Can't wait to share some pics of the entire process of getting the tank up and running.

Welcome! I'm pretty new as well, just added my first two fish yesterday :-)

Be patient. That's my best advice. I've lost more money than I want to count on fish and corals by adding to fast when I was just starting. Take your time and let they tank mature. Even after that be prepared to deal with ups and downs along the road. I'm battling ich right now and just lost quite a few pricey fish.

Welcome to R2R ;)

Hi guys,

Its been a while since I've been back but I finally got around to getting my tank and all the necessary equipment I needed to get myself started. Due to my apartment being really small, I got myself a nano, 14G biocube.

So I put the live rock and live sand into the tank and filled it up already. Today is the 2nd day and I'm so excited to share these pictures with you guys. One pic is the tank with the rocks and sand but without the water. The second one is the tank filled with water and the cloudiness already cleared.

I also tested the tank. Water parameters are:
SG: 1.024
Temp: 78.5F
PH: 8.0
Ammonia: 0ppm
Nitrite: 0.25ppm
Nitrate: 0ppm

My question now is, how often do I need to test the waters? I heard from some people that you can test once a week. But I also heard from some people that new tanks need to be tested daily. Also, what do you guys think about prime? I heard it can cycle the tank faster. Any advice would be appreciated!
