Hello all,
I'm new to the whole aquarium scene; busting my butt off learning about everything.
Recently ordered Reefer 350 with other goodies.
Didn't want to spend too much, but man! it adds up fast!

I don't think I'm ready for a RO/DI setup yet, you guys think it'll be okay to buy the saltwater from LFS? Shouldn't hurt if I test the water before using right?

See you guys around!
Thanks!

You should be fine but save up for a rodi because the lfs will charge you a lot and welcome to R2R

Welcome to R2R Mike!

You should be fine with the water provided the TDS is around 0. Some LFS don’t sell good water so just ask/check it.

But get a RODI system of your own asap

Welcome to R2R and nice buy right out the gate.

Most probably get water from the LFS until a RODI unit is purchased, but if you're ready to tackle one...awesome too. :)

I agree with the others on getting one and trusting your own water and saving money.

It would start saving you money immediately, but do what you are comfortable with doing. :)

Buy a RO/DI NOW!!! You will regret not doing it. Also a refractometer (BRS has some in the clearance section). Watch the BRS WWC video on tank cycling, and rock curing. It has some good info. Don't be in a rush.

Welcome to R2R! Great start with the Reefer 350. Get a build thread going so we can see.

Glad you mentioned the refractometer. ;)

!!! Welcome to R2R @MikeLee !!! From my experience buying water at one of my local LFS, I will suggest to check with a TDS meter the water just in case is not at 0. Mine was 38tds, then I start making my own water at 0 Tds.

Welcome to R2R!!! I started with my LFS water. He let me see his setup and showed me his TDS number. It was great. I ended up getting my own system because I was tired of hauling water. So it may not hurt to ask to see it. If you're not comfortable with it then spend the money on your own system.

Welcome to R2R and to the hobby. I would echo the comments about going ahead and investing in a RO/DI system now. Yes, you can get it from the LFS, but you won't regret having your own system and water at the ready at all times.

IF YOU HAD TO TAKE A REEFING EXAM, WOULD YOU PASS?
