New to the hobby

I run a life reef external overflow on a 180, no issues whatsoever. Failed overflows are due to negligence imo, they need maintenance like any other equipment. I would highly recommend a life reef overflow.

I recently drilled my first tank. It’s much better than using an external box but I didn’t like drilling. It took my 6 hours to drill 3 holes in a 40b because I didn’t apply any pressure and was afraid it was gonna shatter the whole time, wasn’t that fun haha.

Both work, drilled is ideal but it’s 100% not necessary.

Agree drill it. I drilled my 120g and it was scary. At the end it wasn't bad at all. Watch a few videos and you will get the idea. Just go slow. For sump I did a 40 breeder and Jax racks baffle kit. Wasn't that bad to silicone it to the glass.
