Honestly the title is lacking, I'm actually new to saltwater period. I've always had cichlid tanks and my latest was a 125gal that my son now manages.

My new adventure will be a 280gal 72x30x30 tank, and after about a year of researching and scouring the internet, I have been slowly purchasing my equipment. I'll list my equipment below and I know my purchases may not be the best but I'm trying to keep price down a bit in the beginning since I'm starting so large from scrap. I'll will replace items through the years with more industry leading items.

Twin 29 gal sums
Jebao 18000 sump pump
3- photon v2 24" lights
Liquidgen 5stage rodi

I haven't decided on my wavemakers yet or my heater but I plan on twin 300watt heaters with a controller

So far I have build a stand that will be covered with a facade to match the decor of the room. I have built a mixing station in my shop that is 60ft away that consists of a 55gal reserve rodi and a 55gal salt mix tank. The rodi unit has a splitter that fills the 55gal in the shop with a float shut of valve and another line that fills a 14gal reserve thats under the tank for a ato system. The 14gal has an optical eye shut off and when both 14gal and 55gal are closed, I have a pressure shutoff to stop the waste water on the rodi unit. I also gravity feed the salt mix tank from the 55gal rodi tank. The mix tank has a closed loop external circulation pump that also has a valve i can open to send saltwater straight to my sump under the tank.

I have also made 300lbs of reef rock from Portland cement and crushed oyster shells that I cured in a kiddy pool behind my shop till my ph level stopped changing after water changes. And for substrate I went with caribsea special grade.

I feel like I'm starting to ramble so sorry about that. The whole purpose of this thread was to ask for help with fish selections. Keep in mind I'm still a long ways from actually putting fish in the tank but I can't find much info on my desired fish. I'd start with some clowns to help establish more bacteria after the cycle but after that I would like to start adding cuc, gobies, blennies, etc. I would like to have a pair of red scooter blennies and a pair mandrian gobies, singal blenny, wrass, anthias, numerous crustaceans, snails, cucumbers, etc. Is this possible?

Welcome to R2R. Yes, in this hobby almost anything is possible. Some of the fish you have listed need a lot of pods established in the aquarium first.

With a tank that size you can pretty much put any fish you want if its gonna be only a fowlr, if you plan on adding corals then you might wanna make sure you dont get a fish that is gonna snack on all your corals. As mentioned above some on your list will need a very established tank with a large pod population. Luckily nowadays message boards like this and other sites with videos to watch will shorten the learning curve going to salt. Just make sure if possible to listen to reliable information sources as there is alot of bad info out there too. I can tell ya to keep things simple and be patient and its gonna be a whole another world from fresh but a blast.

Yeah I know about the pod situation and 1 of the 29gal sumps is going to be dedicated to chaeto for nutrient removal and pod growth. And I do plan on corals but it will be simple corals like gsp, xenia, zoas, and duncans. I have the tank aquascaped to allow these fast growers to have their own island of rocks to prevent them overtaking the tank

Welcome to the family! Sounds like you're doing your research and making a great start. I would suggest starting a build thread. As has been said before, you have a lot of options for fish with a tank that size. More research.

Trust me when I say this as your successful with the above corals your gonna get this addiction that takes over and before you know it you have all kinds of corals, from softies to lps and sps, it just happens. I started years ago with the corals you mentioned and still have them then next thing you know you end up with all kinds. It happens to me with every reef tank I've set up and in my opinion it's not a bad thing. Heres a pic of my current tank issue from this syndrome

Beautiful tank. I do have it in the back of mind that the urge could grow and thats why I didn't by the cheapest fowlr light. I'm hoping running 3 reefbreeder photon v2 24" will allow me to take the next step in corals without starting all over in lighting

thanks for all the welcomes

welcome. Dont forget to post pix. Would love to see pix of the DIY rocks

I forgot a had a few pics of the rocks while curing.
