New to this hobby

I’ve done so much research so many YouTube videos talking to people I work with who’ve been doing salt water fish tanks for 15 or more years. I’m always up for a challenge and I’m not going in too strong at fisrt I don’t want to get scared off at all. You make a lot of good points so I appreciate it.

Figured I would just chip in tank wise.

You can find some pretty good deals on tanks on thangs like Facebook. They're used but often cheap. Both my first 75 gal tank and my new 2nd 80gal bedroom tank are both used. Got the 80 gal for 500$ tank, stand, skimmer, some free rock, lighting brackets and a few other things included.

I don’t have Facebook so I can’t look I checked Craigslist in my area and they were all tiny tanks or 120 gallon tanks.

"When you buy a used tank you are, more often than not, buying someone else's problems."

It's a quote from my boss when I used to work at the LFS. I think of that quote whenever I see the used tanks being offered for sale on Facebook. I never find any name brand awesome deals on reef tanks here in my area. All I see are junk garbage tanks from the 90's that are hard water stained and scratched up with chewed up silicone. Meh. I wish I lived somewhere near a big city where people give away reef tanks just because they no longer want to deal with them.

Yea a majority of them are old crappy tanks. I got lucky when I was looking. I live in a really small town but it's about a 30 min drive from a bigger city and I found my 80 gal there. Had a small leak but it worked out well after I fixed that.

Yea same here all pictures of them in a garage covered in dust and dirty. Within the past 2 years of doing my research it’s crazy the amount of people that actually do this and still do it after many of years they also stick with one tank for a long long time
