new to this stuff. is this ick?

this is the first time dealing with anything of this size since starting my tank a month or so ago. i have attached the pictures. these popped up sometime today. the second picture, you will have to excuse the bubbles that are in it, he doesnt really show that side much, so i had to use what i could for a picture. i have included one for each side.

what do you think they are, and what shall i do about it. im a beginner, so speak to me as such. what will i need to do ?

There have been changes to the status. the spots are still there, but in addition, pieces of the tail seem to be missing. doesnt look like spots. i posted a pic below to show.

any thoughts anyone?
