New to this!!!

Hi everyone,
I have a fairly old tank that was given to me. It has a hang on filter with a pump I guess to keep the water moving. I have 1 fish and about 4 live rock. The problem I'm having is that it's nearly impossible to keep the green algae off the rock and sides of the tank. Mostly the sides. How can I fix this???
