Hi,
I am from Delaware. Just started out, mostly for my 2 year old daughter. No previous experience. Bought a 55 gal from Petco narrow and wide placed between two built-ins. Right now I have a basic set-up, but have storage and cabinet space underneath the tank for future sump and whatever. I have a few neighbors who have been keeping saltwater reef and fish for awhile now, so I do have some help. So far all I have done is added live sand to the bottom, dechlor tap, tested salinity, added bacteria (instant ocean), Marineland Biowheel filter from Petco, powerhead, heater with temp set around 76*. Waiting for dry live rock from BulkReef supply 50 pounds. Planning on soaking it for a few days and adding extra carbon to the filter once it goes in the tank. I know there is a lot of Chemistry to this and am excited to learn something new.
I am currently researching LED lighting for the tank. It is a 4' wide tank. I know I want something that can handle anything in the tank, definitely LPS and possible SPS corals. I have past experiences that lead me to the realization that buy once is the way to go, even if that means spending a few dollars more. I know that having a good lighting system is essential to Coral growth and maintenance. I am currently looking at x2 Hydra 26 HDs, but any other recommendations would be appreciated, from those experienced.
Thanks!
