New torch not sure what this is…

Hey everyone I’m new to reefing and picked up a torch the other day. I have noticed some green algae and a little red tail sticking out the side of the base. If any of you could help me with this I would really appreciate it.

Also when I first got it the algae was not present it’s been about 6 days since I got it. It doesn’t seem to be bothered and opens fully still. Not sure if I should worry about it or not. I’m also planning on getting some form of clean up crew and I am starting to get diatoms in the tank.

Not sure what your torch is labbeled either. There's always going to be some kind of algae and it will grow faster if the torch isn't opening up and shading the base. The red "tail" is likely a red species of Forminiferin common in reef aquaria and harmless

Is the red thing hard and has a coil at the bottom? It's probably a vermetid snails but it's hard to tell from the pic.

Okay good and the torch has been fully opening up so I would guess it is partially shaded most of the day.
He seems pretty happy to me but I don't know much yet.

Also Cell I have not touch it to see if it is hard or soft but it has not moved yet in 6 days.

Have something similar on my galaxea. Had no idea what it was, just a bright red nub on the rock...

vermetid snails don't move (i don't know if they can move or not but they do tend not to move)

How would you go about smashing it lol. Would it be bad to try and pull it out with tweezers?

i would get a pair of wire cutters and just crush it from the base

I like to cover it with coral glue

Vermited snails live in tubes, you can suffocate them by covering up the end. Also, they thankfully aren't like aptaisa, being complex organisms they can't regrow from a small piece/cell like aptasia

I just pluck them off at the base with a tweezers or my fingernail, which isn't the greatest idea in the world.
