Picked up a new torch this weekend for my birthday. I’m noticing the torch shrinks up a bit later in the afternoon. I’m wondering if it’s getting too much light or if this is normal. The torch seems to fully expand when the lights come on and contracts a bit later in the afternoon.

tank is 10 months old and mostly h acro frags.

par is 300-350 where the torch is located.

first pic is around 9am this morning with the Led and T5s full blast.

second pic is 4pm with just leds.

They have a tendency to do that. Mine will come out fully thru the day to absorb the light, and then when the lights go off they start to recede, then they partially come out to filter feed at night. My TSA Black Panther will almost recede totally into its skeleton at night, that's when I count the heads, then it starts to come out throughout the night.

300 plus par is to much for a torch, IMO. I have a mixed reef, with more emphasis on SPS. I have mine in roughly 200 par which is still high, but it has adapted. :)

OHH!!! Happy belated Birthday!!!

Lowering the light intensity is not an option since the tank is designed for 99% Acropora. I might consider relocating the torch to a corner or cave.

I have mine on the sand bed in the back, that way it gets lower light and flow. I bought it as a single frag and it has grown to 8 heads, but it seems to grow outward and not upward. I feel this is due to the par numbers.

My torch is the same exact one does the same thing I think he does best in low light and not much flow

I have mine at the top it seems ok it’s up there in the corner it was screwing with it’s neighbors. As you can see the sweepers I wouldn’t mind relocating it but it seems ok I was wondering if it would do better lower maybe on the floor?
