New Toy

Chris,

I got mine all programmed and was monitoring it last night to make sure it was doing what it is supposed to be doing before hooking it up to the aquarium. I've go some good codes written for the dosing pumps that will dose every hour for 3 minutes during the day for calcium and 3 minutes every hour at night for alkalinity.
I also setup some feed timers both for feeding purposes and for maintenance. During maintenance I have the program turn on the light under the stand, turn off the heaters and skimmer for one hour.
I haven't hooked it up to the wireless network yet, but hopefully that will come in the next few days.

Very nice. I hope to be able to afford one soon. The ability to monitor from work or vacation would do wonders at putting my mind to rest.

Not only will it relieve you of some stress to be able to monitor, but it is also less for the aquarium sitter to worry about!

Oh yea new toys!!

Currently 30 minutes of CAL so about 33ml's and 40 minutes of ALK so about 44ml's... Got the CAL program that runs for 10 hours and the ALK program runs for 9 hours.

I need to adjust my ALK program as I tested the ALK yesterday and it was 7. I'd like to get it back up closer to 8 so I added 10 minutes to my timer from 30 to 40 minutes now. I haven't adjusted the apex program yet though...

shouldnt you manually raise it to 8 and use the dosers to maintain? or is that your plan

I want to raise it slowly so I'll let the doser do the work. Plus I'm doing a WC in 2 days so no need to be too drastic about it.
It was maintaining well for the past few months then all of a sudden dropped. I knew something was weird because my telltale purple monti started to bleach.

Have you seen the apex dosing calculator spreadsheet? look under 'tools' on the right side of the page.

I downloaded the iPhone app to check that out. The app supports custom port numbers for HTTP. I will highly suggest changing the public facing port to something else. This is called a PAT port. We set that to a random number, lets say 45129. We open the firewall and forward this to port 80. I wouldn't change it on the Apex. Also I would suggest changing any default usernames and passwords on that device (and routers too).

Also if you guys want to get something a bit easier to track. Check into http://www.noip.com or any other free Dynamic DNS Service. You'll be able to have a true domain name and not worry about your ISP changing your public IP address.

You could point your Apex to http://my controller.domain.com:45129

Pretty cool stuff.

Just downloaded it on my droid now. The droid app looks to be a little nicer. Not sure why the SSID is in there, but on the droid you have host and WAN which will be nice. You'll only need a single controller added. The iPhone looks like you'll need 2.

I got an Apex for Xmas. I got all the web stuff set up for it, but haven't had time to actually install it. I really don't know how difficult it's going to be to program the different ports. Was it pretty easy to do? Computer programming isn't my forte....
