New Toy

I think we got Jay's setup done in under 15-20 minutes. I'm getting good at these things lol. I really want one now. I see where you can add custom modules to the "home screen" and have like a static picture or your webcam. I may buy an IP camera today for SnG's and see if I can import a remote stream into a module. If that's the case, then webcam monitoring on your setup will be easy.

Big box in the middle will become occupied this weekend... waiting for another package! also havent calibrated my temp probe and dont have my ph probe online yet... hopefully tonight

apex comes with temp and PH probes, eb8, dimming capabilities (anything that takes a 0-10v signal)

apex lite comes with temp probe and eb8

apex jr comes with eb4 and temp probe

im sure i missed something but thats a start

You will love it when it is all done!

I love mine! Checkout reeftronics.net. The host helped me set my system up and has great website for free. He also has an amazing dosing calculator that writes the program for you.

Is that the only difference is equipment it comes with? So i could buy say the jr and just upgrade as i need?

G, the Jr. has limited upgrades and can only run up to 4 modules. The Lite and the Apex and can run up to 240 modules. The only difference in the base modules between the Lite and Apex is that the full Apex has 2 ports for dimming/variable voltage capabilities. For me, since I don't have dimmable LED's, I went with the Lite. If I add dimmable LED's later, I'll buy the module down the road. I think you get a pH probe with the Apex and not with the Lite as well. Other than that the Lite and Apex are pretty much the same. The JR is the entry level unit with minimal upgrade-ability...

Ah cool thx i wanna get one but cant shell out $500 right now. The jr may work for me as well i dont see me needing more than 4 modules anyway. Which controls tunze pumps? VDM?

I am not 100% sure but I think the VDM is for Vortec pumps... The Tunze's can be controlled through the energy bars with the programs that are incorporated, I think!!!

If i were you, I'd shell out the extra $150 for the lite as it comes with 8 outlets instead of 4, and has way more modules that can be added later. Yes, you don't need them now, but what will you need in a few years? I see you staying in this hobby and adding more/upgrading things in the future. Spend the money upfront and you won't be disappointed later.

Father's Day and my wedding anniversary are coming up. I'm probably going to get the lite. I guess I'll turn my Arduino into something for my FW tank or a ATO.

Kevan's advice to me was not to get the lite. Because inevitably you will always end up wanting or needing more. So he said, just get the full apex and not have to worry about it. You never know when you might want those options, and it will already be there for you.

Good point! I'll save the $130 this time around for the frag swap though. You can listen to me cry later when I want the dimmable ports!
