I just picked up this urchin last night from the Lfs did an hour of drip acclimation and tossed him in the tank he hasn't moved at all. Any thoughts? I'm new to reefing any help would be appreciated.

I don't see any spines, or am I missing something?
Did it look like that when you bought it or did the spines fall off after?
*unless this is some "smooth" urchin that I've never heard of

It looked exactly like this when I bought it, it was moving around however at the lfs

Likely dead, or soon to be. It should be covered with hairs and spines. That looks like an urchin skeleton.

It should not have been sold if it looked like that at the store.

Oh wonderful it absolutely looked similar at the store, that's what I get for not doing a bit of research before picking one up. I'll give them a call and see if they'll be willing to swap it out or something. Was only $25 so not a big deal

That looks like a dead urchin to me honestly.
Okay thank you yeah I just called the lfs and sent them a pic and they said the same thing ‍♂️. They just gave me my $25 back, they've got some new people and said they're very sorry the new people are still learning and that shouldnt have made it out of the store.

That's a very reassuring response, considering they absolutely sold you a dead/near dead urchin that they should have known.
Glad to hear they owned the mistake.
