So I am building a new system. I will be getting a portable RODI system for water changes, but I can only make water out of my kitchen. It will take me over a week to make enough water and mix the salt to fill up a 130g system. I talked to an LFS who said they would make my initial water and fill up my tank for $120. I like the convenience, but is this a good price?

Congrats on new tank. Long ago (like talking the 80’s ;Happy ) it was 50 cents. So 1$ a gallon or so sounds about right.

Are you going to do a build so we can watch?

Premade salt from my LFS would cost me $1.80/gal which at 130 gallons would cost $240. So he’s selling you bulk pricing. I’d say it’s good.
Thanks! That's good to know. My LFS is charging $0.50 per gallon ($0.75 if I choose my own salt). The extra money is for them to come to my house (15 miles away) and put it into my tank. From what you are seeing it seems like I'm getting a pretty good deal...

Yes!!! I would love to do a build thread so everyone can see my progression and also to get advice. Where is the proper place to start a build thread on R2R? (Super new here. lol)

My LFS quoted me $2 gal for reef grade salt and R/O water, $1 gal for regular Instant Ocean salt. This was just to purchase it and fill my on tank.

I would verify that they are using R/O water and depending on what type of system you are setting up, the salt they are going to use.
