New wrasse hiding

Hopefully you had a successful trip! Pickup any other goodies on your drive?
I went to Jamrock but I got too nervous about having to spend an extra night before being able to get home. It’s small but a nice store with good prices. Next time I visit the beach I’ll l stop in there again.

I picked up a few corals from the store in Charlotte with the fish but nothing special.

Well giving him time to adjust was all it took. I looked into the qt tank after work today and he was out swimming around.
Do any of you wrasse experts know how well they handle copper. I usually run copper in my qt after giving the fish time to settle in and start eating.

I don’t think a timor will like copper but I have never tried.

If you choose to use copper prophylactically, Coppersafe is the most gentle on wrasses. If you’re not treating your wrasse for an acute ich infection, then I recommend taking 2 days to reach 2.0 - 2.25ppm to ensure tolerance. Coppersafe is typically well tolerated by wrasses, but keep an eye out for any signs of distress.

Fwiw I've used cupramine on a lot of different wrasses in the past, including leopards and pencils. I just ramped it up over 4-5 days instead of the usual 2. They did fine when I did that.

Usually I don't use copper on wrasses, but in cases where the tank had visible ich on other fish, or they came from a system with infected fish (i.e. LFS tanks all plumbed together), then I will use copper on them. I prefer just quarantining them and watching them without using copper. They get a 90 minute ruby reef rally pro bath, then get 3 treatments of prazi before going in the display usually.

It came from a lfs where I have never seen any signed of parasites in their tanks. I just plan on doing several months of qt instead of copper.

This is the first time I have a fish not from TSM Aquatics which they QT. I got a leopard wrasse yesterday and he's in 40B QT with no med. I don't plan on copper unless I see something in the next 6 weeks.

When do you do the Ruby Reef Rally bath with a wrasse? I would usually use it as soon as I get the non wrasse fish home from the LFS and then the fish goes into QT. The wrasse hasn't been dipped into the Ruby Reef Rally yet. He was stressed at the LFS and didn't want to kill him with a dip

How is the wrasses doing?
He came out and started acting normally, until I moved him to my display a few days ago. My Melanurus wrasse showed some aggression so he has gone back to mostly hiding. I’m sure in a few days he will start coming out more.

Sorry I missed this post. I didn’t use any treatment on mine. I just left it in qt for close to 3 months.

I had been told that the two would likely be okay together. I wasn’t worried about it too much because when I had to put a mirror near my tank for my purple tang the Melanurus never attacked it’s reflection.
I just checked the tank and the timor was out and swimming around, so I think all will be well with them.

Good to know, Ive been to several fish stores that don't have sand in the tanks with wrasses or any tanks for that matter.
Yup 4 stores ive been to have frag tanks all with Melanarus and Leopard wrasses in them and these fish are huge. I guess some people get lucky.

Oh I didn't know that Melanurus's can be butt heads. Good to know
My LFS told me they can be trained assassins to your snails to. You just don’t know until you add them. Just like my Hawkfish. He leaves all my snails alone but a friend has the same kind and he kills everything

Most if the time they will play nice but the can be jerks. When they are watch out.

Mine ripped an emerald apart with some help from a sharp nose
