Picked up some bam bam zoas Saturday as a starter for the new tank. Put them in the QT (little penguin filter with heater (1.025, 0,0,0 water)) after dipping in CoralRX and now they are closed up tight. Initially the stems were a grayish color. Today the stems are brown and seem to be shrinking. I had my LED over them the second day and hey opened about 1/2 way. I've since taken it away because they closed after about 3 hours of light. So now they are just getting ambient light during the day. Did a 20% water change yesterday with no change as of tonight. Any ideas?

When my zoas do that In my experience its turning for the worst. Have you tried doing any more dips? I use revive. itll normally clear up the brown film for me and I keep doing it once a week til it turns one way or the other.

what type of lighting did they come from? what size tank do you have what type of lighting? where did you place them? how high up where they when you purchased them. Quite a few questions to help us out to help you answer your proclem.

also if you can get a picture of them that would be great opens more doors to help you out also and give us more food for our thoughts. ! hope this helps ya bud.!

I have not dipped them again. The previous tank had metal halide I believe. They were in the previous tank (125g) about midway, on a frag rack. The tank they are in now is a 10 gallon QT. I had them at the bottom but moved them up to about midway to get them some better flow. No lighting now. Nothing else in the tank. Will snap a picture tomorrow morning.

I have never heard of QT'ing corals. I don't think it is necessary. But your problem sounds like a light issue.

Well, I added a light to my QT and they are coming back nicely. Ate yesterday so that is promising. Has anyone notice their zoa's create air bubbles when they eat? When I spot fed them yesterday I started noticing bubbles in their stems. Now there seems to be a lot of bubbles on the frag disc. I hope it isn't algae! Glad I've QT'd them even if it's something harmless.

Uhhhh..... Hope you coralrx them at the very least...

And what color is the bubbles. Mine never bubble up. May be bubble algae which you don't want. Don't pop the bubbles unless out of tank then rinse with clean tank water to remove spores. If it is Bubble algae.

I believe it is recommended to qt anything that goes into ur dt that way u don't introduce pest or anything else u don't want. Like some corals have red bugs and if u qt them then u can treat for them and don't have to worry about introducing them into ur dt or system. Just giving example of why qt everything isnt a bad habit to develop.

Exactly why I QT! Learned the hard way with freshwater. I was thinking bubble algae as well but the mother tank didn't have it, or at least I didn't see it in the tank. I'll keep watching.
