I was in saltwater hobby about a year ago. After I got attacked with red cyano algae, I just blew off my tank & sell all equipment. I'm thinking about getting back to this with better research & understanding before diving back :)

I want to get a Nuvo all in one 40 gallon & stand. BTW, how do you keep your tank in check? I mean I want to avoid red slim :)

Red slime is cyano bacteria
Cyano is one of the first bacteria to grow in a tank. Its everywhere. It likes, light, nutrients and no flow. It comes with most new tanks. Until something out competes it for light and nutrients it will grow. The best way to rid yourself of it is to vacuum it out and make sure you have a power head blowing on the sand and rocks. Turn your lights down esp white. When your corals start to grow it should die off.

Welcome.... back! R2R is a great place to learn information. Just knowing there is a online community dedicated to helping others do well, makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. It’s very refreshing to say the least. A lot of people are scared of asking questions because they look like a newbie. Hey guess what!? Everyone was there at one point, unless of course you are a marine biologist. ;Hilarious

Welcome to R2R!!! Although it is not unusual to experience some amount of an "uglies" stage, maintaining water quality, having a good filtration system, doing regular water changes, and not overfeeding can all be helpful ways to maintain a healthy aquarium. Good luck - we're glad you're here!
