Hello guys,

I am new to the salt water tanks and I need some advice.

I have a 25 gallon Innovative Marine AIO tank. I currently have a filter sock, pump, heater, and I recently added some carbon to the overflow compartment. I am in the market for a skimmer and an ATO system. What are some of the better quality brands for a tank my size?
Also, my nitrate levels are a little high, how should I reduce the nitrates? I do water changes weekly and even bought Instant Ocean Nitrate Reducer.

Thank you

I use the Tunze ATO, I've got no complaints about it's performance. I don't think you can go wrong by going with it.
I'm not familiar with skimmers for smaller volume tanks.
As the no3 goes, if your bioload is just too heavy for water changes to keep it down, you could try carbon dosing. Although if it's a new tank, I'd stay away from carbon dosing and just see how your skimmer performs over time while the tank finds its nutrient balance.

Hey BX - agree with XNavyDiver about the Tunze Osmolator ATO, great unit. Neptune also has their ATK system, same price, and might be a good investment if you think you will upgrade your tank and get an Apex eventually, though it can be used stand alone as well.

See if you can manage your nitrate without chemical concoctions, which is better for long term success in creating a balanced system. Look at your bioload, if you are feeding too heavy, etc. I suspect after you add a skimmer, that will help quite a bit and you will be set. Also not familiar with the skimmers that might work with your tank, but I'm sure there are some HOB (hang on back) options out there, or even small mini units that might fit into the section in the back of your tank.

Aquamaxx hob skimmer fits it and skims like a beast, most of the non hob skimmers that fit are rated for smaller tanks. If you need a cheap option the reef octopus ns-80 works but you get what you pay for.

Awesome. Thanks guys for all the input! Will look around for what I can find in town. Thanks again!
