Hello Everyone!

More often than I'd like to admit I see people jump in head first into a hobby or pet ownership without taking the real time needed to prepare for such a big responsibility and decision. In an effort to avoid this mistake myself i'm learning as much as I can about the hobby and labor of love that is marine aquarium keeping. I'm going to be doing a lot of stalking around the forum but are there any words of wisdom or pearls of advice that anyone can give me in advance?

I don't have an aquarium yet but it's looking like I'm going to be purchasing a Red Sea C-Series aquarium as my starter tank. Does anyone recommend something different?

I would recommend starting with the biggest tank you have room for. Also craigslist has a lot of used tanks pretty cheap. Wouldn't be a bad idea either to get some stuff like a ro di filter system first and holding tanks for both fresh and saltwater so you can make your own to save on cost later.

Welcome to r2r. I'm new to forums but not to the hobby. The biggest tank u can afford and fit would be ideal. I prefer tanks that can be drilled over pre drilled tanks and the reason being is so I can install a coast to coast overflow which imo is better, quiter, safer, and more useful than other overflow designs. My best advise would to be patient. Don't rush your cycle, just let mother nature takes its course. A lot of the gizmos and gadgets are not really necessary and you will come to find what you need or want to maintain your aquarium the way you want it to be. The most important things are lighting, a good quality skimmer (usually a little bigger than you need) and good test kits like salifert or red sea. Happy Reefing!
