Newbie advice needed

hahah. Ok but dont tell the SPS guys I have a gobstopper something something growing amazing next to my xenia. its to the right of my chato tree in the dt.

The hair algae is actually due to the joys of a new tank, but funny related story (to totally derail poor @jpontier212 's thread here). My mom came over and mentioned that she hadn't seen any pictures of my tank since I first set it up. I said I wasn't posting photos due to the insane amount of algae taking over the tank. My mother looks at the tank and says, "it's kind of soothing, how it flows in the current." LOL

My dad was over a few days later and saw the tank. He asked, "can't you do anything about that?" I told him I was doing water changes and manually removing it. He asked, "but isn't there anything you can do to make it go away today?"

It's amazing they are still married. :D

I QT in as sterile an environment as possible (see pics below). No rocks or sand; barebottom with just PVC elbows for hiding places. This way I can quickly dose medications without having to worry about absorption. I use a small powerhead (pointed towards the surface for increased gas exchange), and an Aquaclear HOB powerfilter for biological filtration.

These powerfilters utilize a sponge insert. I “seed” the sponge (or multiples) in a high flow area of my DT’s sump (or you can put it behind your rocks) for at least one month prior to QT. This one month allows time for enough beneficial bacteria to transfer onto the sponge, so that it may be used as biological filtration once placed back in the power filter and used in QT. An alternative (albeit expensive) way to instantly seed your sponge is to pour some Bio-Spira, Seachem Stability or Dr Tim's Nitrifying Bacteria over it just prior to use.

Is that CBB as tiny as it seems?

I miss my CBB and magnificent foxface. They are the only fish that make me wish I had a big tank again.
