Hi all, I'm new here and probably going to ask stupid questions but please be patient, until 3 years ago I kept tropical fish when I had to give up the hobby due to divorce, I have been thinking about a marine setup for a while and have found 1 recently priced, it's a mature 130ltr tank and comes with everything including fish and live rock, for a newbie with limited (but rapidly growing) knowledge of marine tanks is this a good way to start? Thanks in advance

Welcome to R2R!!!

you could start that way, but.. and this is my opinion.... you may end up starting with more problems than you are equipped to handle. moving a full set up will be difficult. It stirs up all kinds of detritus in the sand and rock which leads to ammonia spikes. This can also cause the tank to cycle once again when you get it set up in the new location. You could always buy the set up and take all the fish and corals to your LFS to hold (or trade in for store credit), set the tank up fresh and new, then after the cycle you can take your store credit and get fish and corals that you actually want. Just my opinion of course. People buy full set ups all the time. Sometimes though you are buying problems that the previous owner doesn't disclose. Make sure to ask as many questions as you can about the health of the system and why they are getting rid of it.

I would agree. I have moved and moved an entire sand bed.....learned from that one....now I take a decent amount for "seed sand" and pretty much spin up new sand.
