So I am new to saltwate but not aquariums. My question is does this nem look OK? I have a newer tank been up about 4 months everything appears stable and fish are doing well. I understand the tank is new and nems prefer a mature tank.... my concern is that of my 2 clowns only one has hosted. That one I feel gets a little aggressive and like nudges or is pushing on the disk. Based on the body movement it looks like the fish is pushing hard. I believe this is a watermelon nem based on the individual I bought it from....I have yet to see the "bulbs" just semi inflated testicles. Any input would be appreciated

Testicles huh? ROFLOL

I think they are just acclimating to hosting/each other.
"semi-inflated testicles" oh my.
Not all clowns will host and sometimes the one who does is very territorial. They will work it out. The fish brings the nem food, they cuddle... the nem gets annoyed and moves to a new rock. It's kind of like dating. As long as you keep the parameters stable, the nem will do well.

Some BTAs never have bulbs, some do. As for the anemone hosting clownfish or not, mine haven't touched my anemones in the year I've had them.

What lighting are you using? As well as a parameter list.

Dang it! Freaking auto correct got me again. I thought I fixed it the first time......guess not lol

I have 2 noopsyche k7 pro lights.... as far as parameters go
Ph 8.2-.4 ish
Ammonia near 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate between 0 and 5.0ppm
Salinity 1.024-25
Temp 78
At this point I decided to do a 30-40% water change since my last one was about 3 weeks ago

One thing I would like to throw out there is that I don't think I ever really hit the ugly stage... If I did it was really minor. Hardly any algae and diatoms have minimal. Water has been really clear. Did I get lucky or screw up somewhere?

Your tank still is too young. I didn't hit the ugly stage until 6 or 7 months. Lasted until about a year old.

Exactly.

I wouldn't do a water change that large. Nems hate change. I would break it in to several smaller ones. Say 3 10% over 3 days or even 6. You have to think not only would you be drastically changing the water, you could be lowering the temp significantly as well.

Makes sense... as far as water temp I pre heat the new water to match tank temp
