I am new to saltwater completely. I have had freshwater for years and most recently started with koi. I am now on the cusp of being ready for saltwater. I bought a 75 gallon tank and geo light with t5 bulbs today. I got them for $80 and trying to take my time and piece it all together as I can't afford to do it at once and don't want to cause undue stress to fish because of that. I'm looking at the api nexx filters and wondering what thoughts are. Unless someone has something better for sale I could do. Also likingfor ideas on fish . My daughter says we have to have clowns. I love blue tangs but they are not reef safe. Please help.

Welcome.

Blue tangs are reef safe but they require a much larger tank, min is roughly 180 gallons.

Looks into the Dwarf Angels, Kole Yellow Tang, Hawk fish, Royal Gramma, any of the Dart Fish.

I have never used nexx filters but you have to be careful with any chemical media that is designed for saltwater. Also canister type filtration tends to result in higher nitrates this is fine for fish only setups but may cause issues with reefs. Tangs are reef safe they just need very large tanks.

As for fish you have to first decide what kind of tank you are going to do then list any must have fish such as the clowns.

I thought I had read they weren't but with the tank they are out of theequation . What filters would be recommended for a mix setup with fish and some reef. Thinking basin corals, anemones any other suggestions. The tank itself is 48" long and not as tall so I have some room to spread out alittle.

Most importantly would be a protein skimmer and live rock for biological filtration. You can also look into sumps with a refugium.
