My wife been wanting saltwater tank for years. She made that request known for her 50th and family and friends gave her money enough to buy what we needed. We decided to start with a Bio cube starter kit. Actually its AquaEuroUSA 28 gallon kit. 78 watts flouresent, 8 blue moonlight LED's, 3 stage filtration, and 2 160 high performance water pumps for water movement.

We have about 2" to 2 1/2" of live sand with 20 lbs of live rock. The tanks been cycled for almost the week. 9/17 and today is 9/22. Today we added 1 yellowtail, 1 blacktail Damselfish and 1 sand sifting sea star. Total of about $20 in fish. Reading, asking, reading, asking and web searches, and google maps for fish stores etc...we are on our way.

This is new ground for us. ( actually its new water to swim in.) Test kits, strips... day by day...small tank is good to start with. I hope we can do this. Out here in the california high desert there are very limited places to go for supplies let alone Q and A sessions. W

as it scarey for others their first few months or so?

Welcome Rhonda and John! If you have any questions feel free to ask. Make sure to start a build thread and post pics of your new tank.

Hey welcome! I'm in the Cali low-desert.. And you're right about being limited locally, but there are some awesome LFS's in LA and OC counties..
And here on R2R is a great place to ask questions.

Welcome to r2r!!!! Can't wait to see your tank!!!

here is ONE pic from the iphone 18 lb live rock and two damselfish. there is a sand sifter sea star, but its burrowed into the sand. This is scarey. but challenging enough. Am I a chemist? We shall soon see. I'm taking notes every step of the way.

thanks y'all for the warm welcome.

Ridgecrest / China Lake area. One LFS here in town has started offering marine saltwater supplies and fish. They are limited due to just getting the tanks cycled.

They ARE offering SOME fish, but not much right now. Hope to get Nemo soon. Rhonda wants a Nemo.

Yeah not much in your area. You need to take a little drive down to Rancho cucamonga. Great shop down there that can help you out with anything you need and if he doesn't have it he will get it for you. He's a straight shooter no tricking the noobies into buying things they don't need or selling fish you shouldn't have or charging a high price on a piece cause you don't know better. shoot me a pm if your interested in checking out his place and I will give you the name of the shop.

Welcome to R2R! When I lived there I drive down to Bakersfield for a good LFS. But you are close enough to LA to go to some GREAT ones!!
