Hi! I'm Jenny. I'm a mom of two very young children, and we just set up our very first saltwater tank. My oldest is only 3 years old, but he's obsessed with sea animals and ocean life, - he can name over 100 different sea and coastal animals and knows all sorts of fun facts about them. He is who inspired us to get this tank - so we can learn more deeply about this fascinating ecosystem!

We have a 32g Coralife Biocube. After 7 weeks, we only have live sand, live rock, a couple of hardy corals, hermit crabs and snails. We are currently going fallow for a few months before adding fish. Even when we only had the live sand and rock, it was already super interesting to see the cycle process and see what life pops up from the rock! I look forward to learning from you all, as I find myself getting my fascinated by this than my little ones, haha! :)

Welcome Jenny, I don't know whether to be excited for you or worried about you. Young children and a saltwater tank. LOL sounds like you started up the right way. And you're obviously in the right place. Look forward to seeing it

Welcome to R2R Jenny. This will be a cool adventure for the whole family.

Welcome! Another mom reefer here, I've got 4 kids ranging from 13 to 2 years old. And three dogs, my reef tank, and a vegetable garden. I'm a glutton for punishment [emoji23]

My kids actually are not super interested in the tank, but every now and then something cool happens to spark their interest.

The toddler loves our cleaner shrimp, that might be something fun to get for your cube. Or even a pair - when they spawn you get free fish food ;)

Haha, I've heard stories of toddlers putting cereal into sumps and what-not! Our tank is too high for them to reach in!

Yay! Another reefer mom! :) The kids love the tank, but I'm definitely more interested than they are - sometimes they get mad when I'm staring into the tank instead of paying attention to them, lol! Where does one find a mated pair of shrimp? I haven't seen any at our local LFS's.

Welcome to R2R and your new family adventure. Now it's time to share some pictures of that tank with your new reefing family. :D

Not much to look at right now, at least from pictures. I could stare at the live rock to see what new creatures pops up all day if I could, though! :)

Welcome! I have a two kids as well, a 1 yr old and a 3 yr old. My three year old son is obsessed with our reef to the point that when he's listing off the names in the reef store I sometimes catch the LFS owners looking doubtingly at their employees as to their lack of abilities to get up to speed. :) He's already received a job offer when he's of age at one! :D I think this is one of the most exciting things you can share with your babies, way to go!

Welcome to R2R Jenny! That light mount looks like it's from Aqua illumination... Is that a Prime HD? Can't wait to see what this turns into! :)

You just need to buy two. They are hermaphrodites :) They are pretty common around me, you might be able to ask your LFS to order a couple for you.

Wow, my kids are the same ages! And the same thing happens when we go to our LFS :) He's so proud of "his tank", haha! The little one loves to point at the hermit crabs and snails and asks me to tell her what they are. The whole family is definitely learning!

Would a 32g tank be large enough for the two?
