1. In my new tank, I am hoping to have an anemone, a toadstool, and a torch. Assuming all are similar size and the clownfish wants a host, do clownfish always go for the anemone or have folks had clownfish choose say a toadstool or torch over the anemone. So given a choice, what % of the time will they host in the nem given those other choices? Naturally I am looking for estimates.

2. What are the best ways to discourage nems from moving? Or said another way what environment can I create so they are most likely to stay put? I've read some move a lot and other dont. Can I put one on the sand surrounded by rock or maybe on a small rock in an area w less flow?

First, for an anemone the tank need to be mature, more than 6 month running. Clown fish can host in anything. I have 4 Bubble tip anemone and my clown fish is hosting a gonipora. The anemone will move until the find the best place in your tank that they like so they will be moving around until they find the perfect spot.

+1. Nems want stability & clowns are weird (usually in a really neat way). They’re going to do whatever they feel like doing so I have learned to focus on creating the space for them to succeed and then let them choose. Good luck!
