Hi reef2reef!

I’m Kate and I’m from St Louis. I’m in the process of starting my first saltwater tank; a drilled 90 gallon with 40 gallon sump. I’m waiting on the stand to cure for another 3 weeks before the tank gets put on it.

I ordered 15 lbs of KPAquatics live rock the last week of October and it’s been in a 30g since then. On the rocks I’ve seen sponges, algae’s, pods, an urchin, spaghetti worms, bristleworms, 2 brittle stars, bivalves, a sneaky shrimp and other mystery creatures I don’t know what they are. Really cool rock, wish I could have gotten a lot more but it was last minute before the weather got really cold and that’s all I could get at the time. Anyways...just wanted to introduce myself and say Hi! and thank you in advance because I will have so many questions. I’m pondering where I can put an rodi unit. Who has one hooked under a bathroom sink or by the washing machine? Pics would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks reefers!

Welcome aboard TriggerFinger

Your LR looks great and you have a great plan scheduled. I cannot wait to see the progression of it all coming together.

I'm assuming you are waiting for stain to cure out on your stand? I know with some humidity levels it can take a bit longer than in a low humidity/ That's only my guess as I've had to wait due to some levels before the stain 'takes good'.

Thanks for the pics, Kate. :)

Hi everyone!! Yes, the clear coat on the stand is curing. The can said 30 days, I should have paid closer attention to that but it’s too late now. I started out the crap Home Depot urethane and hated it so I drove an hour to get my trusty general finishes and it looks nice now. It’s been in my basement at 74 degrees with 40% humidity so I might not wait the whole 30 days. I think it’s been curing 2 weeks already...I can’t remember! Here’s a picture before and after stain, before clear coat.
Island, I have no patience for things like this. I have a toddler and she’s lots of handfuls.

Welcome to R2R!!!

I have my rodi unit under the wet bar sink. Under sinks are a great place to hide them as long as you have the spare room.

Hitman, any pictures of how your unit is mounted? Anyone else have pictures of their rodi units by a washing machine or under a bathroom sink?

Welcome to R2R!

I did build the stand and I’m still trying to figure out the plumbing and how everything fits together. Not too bad for a female with a toddler huh?! I’ve been stalking this forum for almost a year, I’m amazed that people are so willing to help complete strangers. So glad to join this “group”.
I have questions about some dry rock I have too. I have about 100 lbs of previously live, now cleaned and dry rock. I put a few pieces in the 30 with the KP rock and the rest of the dry is in a brute with power heads. The brute temp is pretty warm bc of the powerheads and I keep the lid on so it doesn’t evaporate so much.
Is the high temp going to harm the cycle? It’s about 90 degrees in the brute.
Also, I have zero ammonia and nitrites showing but nitrates are well over my test capabilities. API tests to 50 ppm and my sample is much darker than that.
Can I leave it like it is since there isn’t livestock or do I need to do a couple water changes? No lights on the dark brute so algae won’t grow, right?
Does water temp matter for a water change since there isn’t livestock? Is it ok to dump 70ish degree new water in the 90 degree brute?

Oh I have so many questions...
