So I need to get light for my tank. I have a beamswork 48” light I ran on my freshwater tank before making it salt. I was looking at these light from Amazon. Link. I wanna get some sps and soft corals in the future when the tank is more Mature. Would these work?

What is your budget? For SPS I'm not sure that light will work

I have those lights. I run 2 sets (4 lights) on a 33 Long. They total 148 watts, which is 4.5 watts per gallon. I get decent growth, but everything in that tank is LPS.

The depth of a 33 long is only 12 inches. So there is plenty of penetration and decent par levels at the tank's bottom.

Please tell us what the dimensions of the tank are.

I do not recommend those lights for growing coral. They are too low of par, and not in the proper spectrum. I used to have them and most coral suffered. Instead, try the Current Orbit R24 lights. Sometimes they are on chewy.com for half off.

Maybe look for some used radion lights or something similar? People are selling stuff all the time on this forum

Sorry, thought I put that in the post. It’s 75 gallon
75g with 500 gives you some options. Will need 2 lights or 1 meant to cover a 4' tank. Couple AI prime lights and either an LED strip or T5 hybrid would be nice.

More expensive option but what I would recommend is either a Kessel ap700 or the very nice ap9x. Can't beat Kessel IMO

No... we need the DIMENSIONS of the tank. Specifically we need the DEPTH of the tank.
75g are usually all 4'x18x18 or so

AP9X is about $900. Can he buy half of a light? :face-with-tears-of-joy:

Ok... so an 18" depth. Those lights definitely don't have the necessary power for a tank of that that depth.

I have 4 on a 33 long and get good growth, but, its a tank of LPS. And the tank depth is only 12".

Based on my experience with those lights, the OP wouldn't be able to place the corals more than 12" below the water line (depending on how high above the water line the lights are mounted.

It just seems like the wrong choice for that tank.

I gave options for lights in the range he wanted. Then gave other suggestions that I said were more pricey. Don't see the issue.

No issue... just injecting a small amount of levity into the thread. I thought that was understood when I made the impossible suggestion of 1/2 of a light. I'm sorry.

So from what I am gathering. I need to raise my budget?
You don't have to. Lighting is a get what you pay for kinda thing. You could get 2 black boxes like viparspectra for around 3 or 400. They put out serious par and can grow anything, they lack in the looks dept though. There's always going to be a give and take scenario with the cheaper lighting. Best to check them all out and pick what's best for your budget.

Not necessarily. IMO, the best value in LED reef lighting is the Noopsyche K7 V3. They have excellent spread, spectrum, and intensity, they’re nearly identical to the G4 Radion XR30. 2 of them would evenly light your tank and allow you to grow pretty much anything (softies, LPS, SPS, Anemones, and some clams). They are around $200 a piece including mounting hardware. The actual quality of the light is every bit as good as higher end brands, they truly are excellent lights.
