Newbie live rock question

I started with 10lbs of live and 30 lbs of dry in November. Have some cool stuff growing off the live now (feather dusters I think). Also. Nice purple algae starting on the dry already- just a couples months with some decent led lighting. Get the best of both worlds! Once that purple algae starts, it covers very quickly.

I can't decide either, as both have their pro's and con's. Back in the 90's I bought live rock and although it hand many benefits, I got a lot of aiptasia that took over the reef and and bristle worms that killed a few clams in my 40 breeder tank. I believe I'll just use dead rock this time as there's just too many associated problems that come with live rock. Think about this very hard, do a lot of research and take your time on deciding !

Ive been thinking about this all the time..... They both have there pros and cons.....in my book I think the pros outweigh the cons, I think you have to decide what do you enjoy doing the most, we all get wrapped up with the water changes, and daily maint but sometimes we need just to sit back and enjoy our hard work and remember why we all started this hobby..... I'm not worried about the nasties that may come, there are natural predators you can buy that will eat them, I think in an earlier post someone said it perfectly. I love just sitting looking at the live rock seeing what I can see, if there's any new life or something that I did see before....like finding gold in your living room....I know what my decision is!!!!!

Take the gamble. Every time I have bought live rock I have gotten an unwanted hitchicker. I found LR at the lfs that I had to have yes I paid the money but came home and dipped it in rodi water for 24hrs.
